Derek Lam is going back to the label that carries his name. Derek Lam 10 Crosby has named its founder as Creative Director, a homecoming that lands as the New York brand prepares to relaunch under new ownership. NYC Alliance acquired the label in May 2026, and bringing Lam back to the creative helm is the first real signal of what the company wants the next chapter to look like.

Lam will lead design for the house he built, working from the hallmarks that defined Derek Lam 10 Crosby from the start — thoughtful American design, modern sophistication, effortless versatility — while updating them for how people actually dress now. The first collection under the new structure debuts for Fall 2027.

“From the beginning, we had a very clear vision for Derek Lam 10 Crosby’s future. Bringing Derek back was central to that vision,” said Wen Huang, Head of Branding and Marketing at NYC Alliance. “No one understands the brand’s heritage and design philosophy better than its founder. Derek’s leadership will ensure the brand evolves with authenticity, honoring its original DNA while creating products that reflect how people live today.”

“It’s a pleasure to return to Derek Lam 10 Crosby,” said Lam. “I’m excited to work with the team at NYC Alliance as the Creative Director and I am looking forward to building on the design philosophy of Derek Lam 10 Crosby while bringing a fresh perspective to the brand’s next chapter.”

The business logic is plain enough. NYC Alliance, a New York fashion company with a portfolio of contemporary and lifestyle brands, is betting that its distribution network, supply chain and omni-channel operation can widen the label’s product range and push it into new markets — with the founder in place to keep the design point of view intact while it scales.

The FVM read: founder-returns-to-namesake-brand is one of fashion’s most familiar storylines, and it cuts both ways. It can read as a reset that restores a house’s identity, or as a safe move by new owners who want the founder’s name doing reassurance work while the business gets rebuilt. Which one this is won’t be clear until Fall 2027, when the first collection under NYC Alliance actually walks. What is clear is that Lam knows this brand’s DNA better than anyone — he wrote it — and that a relaunch lives or dies on the clothes, not the press release. We’ll be watching for the collection.
